Circles. I love them. I love to sew them.

body of work

This body of work was created from July 2013 through September 2014 and was a great source of inspiration. At it's completion, there were 72 pieces in the series. All of the images are photo transfers from Shepard Fairey works. The circle pattern was created from a handcut stencil that was covered in ink. The tactile circles were all handstitched. All works on are paper.

About

“I want my art to be touched and revered by participants, not just observers.”

Her Style
The inspiration for Michelle Kimbrell’s two dimensional mixed media art draws heavily from her life, her strong connections to family and friends, and her challenge of traditional views of style. Paper and thread are her favorite mediums to explore and create with.

The Studio
Starting out as most artists do in a tiny corner of her living room, Michelle has since graduated to a proper home studio with a small printing press.

She can be found working both day and night, her cozy bed just steps away. She also has the great fortune to work on larger pieces and etchings at The Open Press: Chattanooga’s Print Coop where she is also the printmaking apprentice under Juanita Tumelaire.

The Basics
Michelle earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art from Georgia State University and an Associates Degree in Business from Georgia Perimeter College. In 2013 she also became a Holmberg Arts Leadership Institute graduate. Shortly after, Michelle moved to Chattanooga and in June of 2013 started an internship with AVA, Association for Visual Arts. Since then she has joined the staff as a Membership Director. Michelle gives back to the community as a volunteer at Mark Making, an organization dedicated to empowering people through art. She’s also a well known emerging artist and is highly involved with The Open Press, a Chattanooga print coop as a printmaking apprentice. And if that’s not enough, Michelle is an Activities Coordinator for CYAN,Chattanooga Young Artistic Network.
